As women age, we observe a reduction in egg quality. The unfortunate truth is that women’s fertility quickly diminishes after the age of 35. This means increased risk of poor fetal development which results in greater chance of early termination or the child developing with genetic abnormalities.
Oocyte cryopreservation, or commonly known as “egg freezing” has been steadily growing in popularity over the years; especially amongst working women who aren’t interested in cutting their career advancement short to care for children. Egg freezing gives females control; the choice to have their own children when they are ready.
This procedure takes several steps and some preparation. Around half a month for the whole process. The first step is ovarian stimulation; normally a female releases 1 egg per cycle. However, to increase our chances of success when we finally use the eggs, we undergo ovarian stimulation to release one to two dozen eggs at once. This involves a series of daily hormone injections, which the actual process may be completed beforehand at your local country or even at home.
Following stimulation, we can then perform egg retrieval. This can be performed at one of our specialized medical clinics located around the world. There at the clinic, we would also help you perform the final step called “cryogenic storage”, which is storing your eggs in a sub-zero chamber with liquid nitrogen at -196 ̊ C (-320 ̊ F). The chamber is then securely stored and the eggs can theoretically be used indefinitely until you decide to have children.
